Retro-cool boutique hotel that genuinely doesn't feel like anywhere else. Stayed here multiple times — the vibe is infectious, the staff are brilliant, and the locations in Victoria and Tofino couldn't be better placed for exploring.
Literally on the beach at Parksville. Stayed here for a 5-day staycation and never wanted to leave. Wake up, step outside, and you're on one of the best beaches on Vancouver Island. Book well ahead — this one fills up fast and for good reason.
High-end resort right on Parksville Beach with an excellent restaurant on site. If you're looking to treat yourself on Vancouver Island, this is the place. The restaurant is worth visiting even if you're not staying.
A genuine hidden gem right in Nanaimo. Camp on the shores of beautiful Westwood Lake and rent kayaks or paddleboards directly from the campground. A peaceful, nature-filled base that most visitors completely overlook. Highly recommended for the outdoor type.
A Coombs institution. Stop here on the way to or from Tofino — you won't regret it. The kind of place that makes you plan your drive time around it. Genuinely one of the best donut shops on the island.
A local favourite in Qualicum Beach. Relaxed atmosphere, great food, and that laid-back Qualicum vibe that makes you want to linger. A genuine go-to whenever we're in the area.
Great food, easy parking, relaxed atmosphere. Tucked into Wembley Mall near Save-On and Canadian Tire in Parksville — sounds unglamorous but the food is genuinely excellent. A local staple for good reason.
The waffles. That's all that needs to be said. A Parksville breakfast institution — go hungry, leave happy. Perfect start to a day of exploring the island. The kind of breakfast that sets you up for anything.
A household favourite. Great steaks, great burgers, solid comfort food done consistently well. The Duncan location is a regular stop — girlfriend approved and personally endorsed. Reliably excellent every single time.
Yes it's a chain — and yes it earns its place on this list. The ribs are excellent, the portions are generous, and it consistently delivers. A personal favourite in Nanaimo that never disappoints after a long day on the island.
A BC institution. But the real reason it's on this list — the kids' Pirate Pak. Burger and fries served in a little pirate ship, chocolate pudding, and a chocolate gold coin. A rite of passage for any child on Vancouver Island. You can even get it on the BC Ferries on the way over. Iconic.
Right on the Parksville Beach promenade and absolutely worth every lick. Summer on Vancouver Island isn't complete without a cone from here. The kind of ice cream that makes you walk slower so it lasts longer. Genuinely one of the best summer experiences on the island.
After a day of surfing or hiking the rainforest, this is exactly where you want to end up. Casual, delicious, and very Tofino. Fresh fish, relaxed atmosphere, and that west coast feeling that makes you never want to leave.
Right on Parksville Beach with a view that never gets old. Worth stopping for even if you're not staying at the resort. Great food, beautiful setting, and that West Coast refinement that makes a meal feel like an occasion.
Brilliant fun for all ages. The bumper boats are a highlight — one of those experiences everyone ends up loving regardless of age. Perfect for families or anyone who wants to have a laugh in Parksville.
A Parksville classic. Great layout, well maintained, and genuinely fun for everyone. One of those places that's been a local favourite for years and keeps delivering. Pair it with Riptide Lagoon for a full afternoon.
Mini golf with a twist — spooky, fun, and unlike anything else in Victoria. Great for an evening activity and pairs perfectly with exploring downtown. A genuinely unique experience that sticks in the memory.
Been here six times and it never gets old. One of the most spectacular gardens in the world. The Sunken Garden alone is worth the trip. Evening visits in summer when it's illuminated are absolutely magical — book ahead.
Real goats on the roof of the Old Country Market. A genuine Vancouver Island icon. Stop for the goats, stay for the incredible market, cheese shop, and bakery inside. A regular stop every single time we drive through Coombs.
